Support Chess players of all levels.
Host Chess events in the CSRA (centering around downtown Augusta).
Develop scholastic chess players and support their competition within the USCF.
Grow the chess community across economic and social barriers.
Origins of the
Chess Association
Our most bitter chess rival - The Colombia Chess Club hosted a regular rated tournament near by their Thursday meeting location Firefly Toys and Games. At this Tournament several Augusta area players congregated together and talked about how we could go about hosting similar events in our own city.
After several attempts at finding a locations and times that worked for members of the chess community we were able to establish a regular Wednesday Location and start building a consistent schedule of rated games. Organizing into a USCF affiliate in November of 2021.
Following our first rated events at Cardboard Castle Games in Evans, GA the association was able to begin hosting a variety of Tournaments and events around the CSRA culminating in our very first City Chess Championship - The Soul City Open in September in 2022.
New events and increased tournament prizes are in the works for 2024! The Augusta Chess Association is excited to continue building a community of chess players and encouraging players of all levels to compete in chess!
Chess in Augusta
The Chess Association grew out of the community of players that frequented the Book Tavern / New Moon Café for Sunday games in downtown Augusta. The PWN-Augusta Chess club was an organized USCF Affiliate that met regularly prior to covid. The tables inside the JB White building are still a frequent spot to find chess players on Sunday Mornings.
Please Contact Us if you have any information about the history of chess in Augusta or around the CSRA, our previous titled players or championships that took place in the city.

Our Tournament Directors and Staff
-
President - Tournament Director
Matthew is a middling to poor chess player that has taken an interest in developing the chess community around the area. Whenever you find a spelling mistake on the site or in an event post, that is his fault.
-
Tournament Director - Evans
Starting to play chess at a comically old age Rusty has proven that you can teach on old dog to play the French over and over again.
-
Augusta Organizer
You may have seen Chris before. He is the grumpy man with a chess board set up in front of him sitting in downtown Augusta. Next time you see him, sit down and play!
